Mass of Spirit and Grace

Here’s a message from our music director, Chrissy Karliak.

Spirit and Grace
This weekend, January 18th, we will be introducing a new setting for the
common parts of the Mass.  The Mass of Spirit and Grace will be used this year during the Ordinary Time.  If you are interested, you can listen to the parts on this You Tube video:

If you have a chance to listen to it before you attend Mass this weekend you will be familiar with the tunes. The choir has been working on it for the past 2 weeks and picked it up rather quickly!  It is a beautiful setting!

When listening to the music, here are the times for each part:

  • The Gloria  00:00
  • Alleluia  02:10
  • Lenten Acclamation  05:48
  • Sanctus  07:20
  • We Proclaim  08:20
  • When We Eat  08:35
  • Save Us  09:35
  • Amen  10:14
  • Agnus Dei  11:28
At this time we will not be using the Alleluia or Lenten Acclamation, so you can skip those. We will be using the “When We Eat This Bread” acclamation for the time being.  Eventually the other acclamations will be introduced once we, as a congregation, are comfortable with the new setting.
We are looking forward to using this Mass setting to enhance our beautiful liturgies at St. Wendelin!  Thank you for your participation!

New Parish Teams

meeting2New Parish Teams

In November many of you participated in a Parish Retreat and Planning Meeting at the Jesuit Retreat House (see News Item).   Many good ideas came out of that day including the formation of 5 teams to concentrate on various aspects of Parish life.

These 5 teams have recently begun to meet.

* Welcome Team
* Worship and Faith Formation Team
* Service Team
* Neighborhood Partnership Team
* Communications Team

Stay tuned for more updates on the activities of these teams.

Advent

advent-wreathTraditionally, Advent wreaths are constructed of a circle of evergreen branches into which four candles are inserted, representing the four weeks of Advent.  Ideally, three candles are purple and one is rose, but white candles can also be used.

The purple candles in particular symbolize the prayer, penance, and preparatory sacrifices and good works undertaken at this time. The rose candle is lit on the third Sunday, Gaudete Sunday, when the priest also wears rose vestments at Mass; Gaudete Sunday is the Sunday of rejoicing, because the faithful have arrived at the midpoint of Advent, when their preparation is now half over and they are close to Christmas.

The progressive lighting of the candles symbolizes the expectation and hope surrounding our Lord’s first coming into the world and the anticipation of his second coming to judge the living and the dead.

Christmas Masses will be on Christmas Eve at 4:00 PM and 10:00 PM.  More info to come.

Divine_MercyThursday, October 16, 2014 at 7:00 PM

The evening event will be a multimedia presentation of the divine mercy message of Jesus.  The message of the Divine Mercy is simple.  It is that God loves us — all of us. He wants us to recognize that His mercy is greater than our sins, so that we will call upon Him with trust, receive His mercy, and let it flow through us to others.  Thus, all will come to share His joy.  Let’s work together to share this message to our friends and neighbors and all who visit our parish home!  To see our online listed event go to  http://thedivinemercy.org/events/event.php?id=699
